We have now created a high-performance wooden acoustic reflector with casters, which has been long awaited by performers, music groups, facility staff, and school music teachers.

The advantage of portable acoustic reflectors is that they can be easily moved to wherever and whenever needed, allowing you to easily maximize the acoustic effect.

Incredibly lightweight and affordable

Once moved, simply lift the panel to use it immediately!

Made of wood, it combines natural, rich resonance with clear sound.

High-quality wood is used for the main panel to ensure the best sound quality(lower body pane)

We use 21mm thick South Sea Paulownia wood to achieve high-quality reflected sound, clear sound, and good resonance.
The surface decorative panel and main body board are integrated using a 10-ton high-pressure press, achieving an unprecedented natural resonance and high-density reflective effect.

Actual measurements show sound pressure level increase performance for each frequency

The following example of actual measurements shows that the volume level rises widely, starting from the mid-low frequency range, which is the frequency band of fundamental tones of instruments and voices, up to the harmonic component band in the high frequency range.
Of course, the values for each band will vary slightly depending on the venue, but we assume that the trends can be seen.
Furthermore, the audible sensation is that of both clear sound and rich resonance.

Frequency : Sound pressure level increase

125Hz:+4.7dB
250Hz:+10.3dB
500Hz:+0.5dB
1000Hz:+2.6dB
2000Hz:+2.2dB
4000Hz:+1.7dB
8000Hz:+2.3dB

What is an acoustic reflector?

An acoustic reflector is a type of stage mechanism that effectively and efficiently reflects the "sound" played on stage, increasing the volume and reverberation. Concert halls and other venues dedicated to music are designed with meticulous calculations of their acoustic characteristics.
On the other hand, general multi-purpose halls are often used for plays, performing arts, concerts that use PA systems, lectures, ceremonies, etc., and since reverberation can have a negative effect, they are usually stored above the stage and can only be lowered and used for live performances.
Because it is a fairly large piece of equipment, many small and medium-sized halls do not have acoustic reflector installed.

What is a mobile acoustic reflector?

Mobile acoustic reflectors are designed to be relatively compact and can be moved to wherever they are needed when they are needed. They can also be stored in a warehouse when not in use, and are generally equipped with casters for easy movement.
In facilities that do not have a permanent stage acoustic reflector, such as multi-purpose small to medium-sized halls, community centers, public halls, schools, auditoriums, gymnasiums, event venues, and lobbies, when performing so-called "live" performances that do not use electrical sound systems, such as classical music, vocal music, choirs, and brass bands, the "sound" from the stage does not reach the audience seats efficiently and diffuses in all directions, making it difficult to obtain rich resonance and clear sound.

It is often said that this makes it difficult for performers to hear each other, which can be an impediment to performance.

In such situations and cases, there is a growing need for movable acoustic reflectors, and although they are simple, they have a tremendous effect in improving acoustics, so in recent years they have become considered a must-have item.

Needs in schools

At schools, there is a high demand for use in gymnasiums, auditoriums, audiovisual rooms, music classrooms, etc.
In particular, we receive many inquiries from students who want to be able to hear their students' voices as clearly as possible for parents at choir competitions, brass band competitions, string and percussion contests, ensemble contests, and music recitals.
There has also been a strong desire to make it easier for students to hear their own voices when performing or singing, the voices of students playing together, and the sounds of musical instruments.

For school gymnasiums and auditoriums, 6 to 16 units will be required depending on the size of the stage, and we will propose the most efficient and optimal number of units and layout plan.

Needs in public facilities

In multipurpose halls and public facility halls, between 6 and 24 units will be required depending on the size of the stage, but we will propose the most efficient and optimal number and placement of units.
If there is not much depth, you can expect a significant improvement in acoustics by placing them only on both wings of the stage.

Event space installation example

We delivered to a large underground commercial facility at the request of a long-established piano workshop that deals in vintage Steinway pianos.
They regularly hold classical concerts in the event space, but noise from the hallways, talking, escalator announcements, etc. mixed in, meaning that the delicate music and sound were not conveyed to the audience. The performers were also bothered by the surrounding noise, as the sound escaped in all directions, making it difficult for them to perform.

The idea was that by introducing the OTHC series and creating a pseudo-wall surface, it would create a concert-like atmosphere.
Using movable acoustic reflectors in open spaces not only improves acoustics as mentioned above, but can also help prevent sound from the event from leaking to other shops.

Examples of inquiries from rental companies

The rental company approached us because they wanted to be able to rent out the equipment for each event, such as classical concerts sponsored by local governments, as well as annual choir competitions, brass band competitions, and ensemble contests.
In addition, they said that they could expect a high occupancy rate, as there are many requests for the equipment from organizers, performers, and music groups for live performances and concerts in commercial facilities and event spaces that do not use PA systems.

Even though they are portable acoustic reflectors, it is likely that many venue owners are hesitant to actually purchase and maintain them, so being able to use them for each event is likely to be beneficial for both parties.

When stored

With the upper panel folded, it can be stacked front to back for storage.
If sufficient height is available, the upper panel can be stored while still in use.
Combined with its lightweight design of approximately 25 kg, this significantly reduces the burden on the user when moving and storing.

Torque Hinge

The upper panel has a "free stop" structure that is characteristic of the OTHC series, and can stop comfortably at any position within 180 degrees, making it possible to fine-tune the reflection angle to suit the venue.
An industry first, the "torque hinge" is used for the hinge part connecting the upper and lower panels.
The torque is adjusted to the optimum level at the time of delivery.
*One dedicated adjustment wrench is included with each order.
*Never lubricate this part.
*The safe operating temperature is 0 to 40 degrees.
*Please be careful not to over-tighten the torque hinge.
Please be careful when opening and closing the upper panel as this may damage the components.

Example of number of units used (approximate)

・Soloist (1 person): 4-8 units
・Solo vocalist + piano accompaniment (2 people): 5-10 units

・Choir, wind band, ensemble (20-50 people): 8 or more units
・Choir, wind band, ensemble (above): 12 or more units
・Orchestra: 16 or more units

*The above examples are only a guideline, and the ideal number of units to install will vary depending on the depth, width, height, and position of the stage, venue, etc. in relation to the audience seats.

If you can provide us with a drawing of the actual stage, we will propose the recommended number of units, including a layout plan.

*For stages with little depth, you can expect improved acoustics by installing only on both sides.

Environment

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in hygiene has increased, and there have been many calls for the introduction or replacement of anti-viral and anti-bacterial products in stage and stage equipment at schools and public facilities.
To create a safe and secure facility environment, the OTHC series has been upgraded to use SIAA-certified materials with anti-bacterial or anti-viral and anti-bacterial treatments on the entire surface of the panel.

Additionally, we strive to reduce the use of petroleum-related materials in packaging and use recyclable materials wherever possible.
